A national NRMA Insurance survey has revealed Brisbane drivers were the most likely to admit to making illegal u-turns, overtaking on the inside lane and jumping red lights.
NRMA Insurance Motor and Home Sales Manager Frank Adler said the research indicated drivers in the Queensland capital were impatient and prepared to put convenience ahead of safety.
"It's disappointing Brisbane drivers were the most likely to flaunt so many road rules," he said.
"Road works and city congestion may be testing drivers' patience, but road rules are there to protect us and there's no excuse for bending the rules."
Nearly 40 per cent of Brisbane drivers who broke the road rules said they did so for convenience, while one third (33 per cent) said they felt they knew best.
"There are no good or safe excuses for disobeying road rules," Mr Adler said.
"It's one thing to be a confident driver but it's another to be a careless one.
"It's also not worth taking risks to shave a few minutes from your trip. It's better to arrive a few minutes late than not at all," he said.
