The Queensland Government recently announced the introduction of free-flow tolling on the Gateway and Logan Motorways by July 2009, a necessary move giving the current population boom in south-east Queensland.
The introduction of free-flow tolling means there are even more reasons to sign-up for Queensland Motorways E toll product, a cashless, fully-electronic, no stopping tolling product which improves travel times and safety for motorists on our road network.
E toll transponders will remain operational when free-flow tolling comes into effect, and motorists can continue to sign up for an E toll account.
E toll can be used on all toll roads across Australia, including the Gateway Bridge, Gateway Extension and Logan Motorway. You will also be able to use it on any future toll roads including Brisbane’s future North South Bypass Tunnel.
Queensland Motorways CEO Phil Mumford says toll road operations in Australia are moving towards free-flow tolling with most toll roads transitioned to a free-flow tolling environment.
“Free-flow tolling technology has gained broad acceptance internationally and interstate and Queensland has produced substantial benefits in time savings, reliability and improved safety on the road,” he said
A survey carried out by motoring organisation NRMA has found that drivers who use free-flow tolling roads in Sydney spend up to 75 per cent less time in the car, compared to drivers who take other roads.
The study also revealed that up to 40 per cent less fuel is consumed by motorists who use free-flow toll roads.
Queensland Motorways is investing in significant research and development of tolling product options that will suit all motorists from frequent through to casual toll road users.
“Our focus is on creating a suite of tolling products that are simple in concept and execution, affordable and widely available.
“Development of products for all level of road users is a crucial step in establishing this automated tolling system, and ongoing research is underway to ensure the best possible solution is found.”
