Brisbane Convention Centre

A taxi rank is located opposite the main entrance and is well serviced outside peak demand times (15:30 to 17:30 Mon - Fri, 12 midnight to 02:00 Fri & Sat nights). Tip: A short walk to Grey St, SouthBank near Rydges or Saville Hotel can result in a quicker service during peak periods.

QPAC (Queensland Performing Arts Centre)

A taxi rank is located in the drive through section (stage door entrance) and is well serviced at the finish of events. Tip: A 5 minute walk across the Victoria Bridge to the Treasury Casino is advisable during peak demand periods. A taxi rank in George St adjacent to the Casino is a well serviced and popular rank with the cabbies.

Suncorp Stadium

A taxi rank is located in Castlemaine St (western side of ground) and is supervised by a taxi marshall at most major sporting events. Tip: If booking a taxi, arrange the pick up for the corner of Blaxland St & Castlemaine St (opposite taxi rank in Castlemaine St) as the taxis cannot pick up bookings around the grounds precinct.

Gabba Cricket Ground

A taxi rank is located in Wellington Rd between Stanley and Vulture Sts (eastern side of ground) and is supervised by taxi marshalls during all major cricket matches as well as all Brisbane Lions (AFL) games. Tip: If booking a taxi, arrange the pick up for either Logan Rd outside the Thai Orchid Restaurant located on the corner of Stanley St & Logan Rd (southern side of ground) or for the corner of Duke and Linton Sts (off Vulture St opposite Gate 5) as taxis cannot pick up in the streets around the ground (closed off before the end of the game).

CBD

Taxi ranks are located within easy walking distance from all major hotels and shops. All ranks are well serviced outside peak demand times. Tip: During peak demand times, the taxi ranks around the perimeter of the CBD receive a better service than those in the centre. A short walk to one of these ranks can greatly reduce waiting time. The taxi rank in Creek St (opposite Central Plaza One between Elizabeth St & Queen St) on Friday afternoons between 15:00 and 17:00 is set up with taxi marshalls to facilitate passenger movement towards specific directions (e.g. North & West, East & South, & Airport).

If booking a taxi, especially if travelling to the airport, allow for delays in getting the taxi (up to 30 minutes in peak demand periods) and traffic congestion which can add an approximate further 20 minutes to the normal travel time.

Be careful of Brisbane taxi drivers! I was scammed on Saturday June 6 2009.

Insist that your driver take the shortest route and make sure he or she does not add more money to the fare at the end. If the taxi company refuses to deal with your complaint because it is a weekend, kick up as much of a stink as possible.
