Council Cabs

At least one day each week the Council Cab will pick you up in the morning at home, take you to the shops and return you home around lunchtime.

Taxi fares in Brisbane are regulated by the Queensland Government.

To get a rough idea of what your taxi trip will cost, check out the Black and White Cabs and Yellow Cabs online fare estimators.

Late night taxis

Brisbane's inner city NightLink services offer extra public transport security on Fridays and Saturdays. These services include FlatFare taxis and secure ranks.

Maxi Taxi, Business Class and Silver Service Taxis

There is a surcharge for ordering a maxicab or Business Class taxi.

Taxis with wheelchair lifts are available on request. Most taxis offer EFTPOS and credit card payment facilities.

Mary from Brisbane CBD says:

Taxis in Brisbane City are expensive. Always tell the driver where you go before he starts driving and always know the route since taxi drivers not always take the shortest route to take you to your final destination, which means more expensive rides.
It is better to pay with cash, if you pay with a credit card or debit card, they will charge 10% more.
Be very careful with the meter at the end of your ride. The driver shouldn't charge more than what you see on the little screen, so ask the driver why he adds a fee at the end of the ride.

Be careful of Brisbane taxi drivers! I was scammed on Saturday June 6 2009.

Insist that your driver take the shortest route and make sure he or she does not add more money to the fare at the end. If the taxi company refuses to deal with your complaint because it is a weekend, kick up as much of a stink as possible.
