In the summer school holidays, give your kids an experience and understanding of other cultures, all without leaving Brisbane, at the State Library's Around the World events.

There’s a series of performances, music workshops, dress-ups and parades all designed to interest younger children. Find out everything that's happening each day.

Tickets to the performances and workshops need to be bought in advance but there are plenty of other activities which don’t require booking or payment.

So take the kids and spend a day at the State Library.

Eating

A special café will be set up on the Queensland Terrace of the Library, level 2. The Wayfarer’s Café (run by Tognini’s) will be family friendly, with international food options for children. Open Tuesday to Saturday 9am – 2pm.

There is also the regular Tognini’s café on ground level and other snacks and ice creams for sale at the River Café. The River Café opens to the river on the park level of GoMA, with grass and open space and is a family-friendly place for a bite to eat or a drink.

You can also BYO food and drinks and have a picnic under a shady tree near the river. This makes it a very economical day out as many of the activities for Around the World are free.

Getting there

The State Library is very well connected to public transport. With the Kurilpa Bridge now open, there’s the option to get off the train or bus at Roma Street and walk across the river. Or, use the Cultural Centre Busway or South Brisbane train station.

You can even catch the CityCat and alight at the South Bank stop. It’s only 10 minutes flat walk (even for little legs) to reach the library. Translink has more information.

Parking

There is the paid undercover parking at the State Library and Cultural Centre car parks. Flat entry fee of $14.
