Tim Loydell and The Deckchairs play The Globe Thursday 7 August, UQ Soiree 3pm and The Joynt 8pm on Saturday 9 August 2008.
Tim Loydell and The Deckchairs have maturity beyond their years. Lead guitarist and front-man Tim Loydell is a sprightly 20 years old. The Deckchairs (Joe, Josh and Alex) all met at University in 2007.
Performing a blend of music best described as ‘alternative roots/ rock’, they have supported the likes of The Whisky Go Gos, Black Water Fever, and Angus and Julia Stone.
With their EP launch of Some Stranger’s Ship scheduled for this Thursday at The Globe Theatre they are ready to set sail. The EP was recorded at Brisbane’s very own Keytone Studios with producer Andrew Ward.
“We signed with Keytone just prior to recording the EP and Andy is one of Keytone’s producers,” Tim explained. “His knowledge, passion and the fact that he actually listened to us and took our feedback on board to create the sound we wanted made us feel we were in great hands. We’re stoked with the result.”
Recording ten tunes, the band culled the material down to a six-song EP.
“We picked the tracks we think gave the broadest impression of our sound. We also wanted to save some of our best tracks for the album,” revealed Tim. “‘Morning Star’ seems to be getting [the] most radio play but my favourite is ‘My Oh My’”
Tim realised his musical abilities at the tender of 13. Tim counts among his influences the guitarists John Ross, Leo Kottke and Eric Mongrain. Another firm favourite is Damien Rice.
“I discovered it was possible to translate my emotions into music and it became my primary outlet,” he continues. “I’ve been taking my music a lot more seriously in the last few years.”
Some Stranger’s Ship is out on Thursday 7 August 2008 through Keytone.
