If you love browsing in markets, but don’t want the big-crowd experience, try the Jetty Markets at Redcliffe.

These very relaxed markets, right on the water’s edge overlooking Moreton Island, offer a good assortment of handmade items (such as jewellery, arts and crafts, baby clothes, leather goods) as well as home-baked goodies, plants and fresh produce. This is not a market for lovers of bric-a-brac – the stalls all sell new or fresh-food items – but it’s a treasure trove of one-of-a-kind and appealing products.

Shady trees provide respite from the sun on hot days, and for families, a visit to the markets could be followed by a stroll down to nearby Suttons Beach – Redcliffe’s only patrolled swimming beach – where the kids can go for swim or burn off energy in the great playground. (There are also barbeques, covered picnic tables and public toilets).

Our reviewer noted several café-style stalls at the market: “There was a pancake stall doing a good trade, as well as a lady cooking a barbeque – smelt fantastic, plenty of people wanting a sausage sambo!”

There are plenty of eating options as the markets are opposite a street lined with busy cafés offering breakfast and lunch.

Our reviewer’s summary: “The Jetty Markets are great for browsing after brekkie…very relaxing, nice, calming atmosphere.”
