Busy and buzzing

There’s a vibrant, busy atmosphere at the Green Flea Community Market at West End. Lots of locals know each other and talk like old friends to regular stall holders.

The enormous fig trees are beautiful to wander under but the market has grown from its original layout and stretches in two directions. The aisles between stalls are quite narrow, with room for only 3 or 4 people across at some points. The stalls with handmade jewellery and ethical clothing caught my eye while other shoppers liked tasting the local olives, buying fresh seafood and admiring the African crafts.

It really has such a diverse mix of products for sale, along with overflowing stalls of fresh fruit and vegetables. There are quite a few organic food options too.

It’s a great market to graze for breakfast or lunch. There are places to sit and eat, with food from all over the world, as well as lots of options for snacks.

Kids can run around on the grass while parents enjoy a coffee. It was cute to see lots of babies carried in slings and a few small dogs on leads.

The West End markets are a busy place and I needed to keep a hold on the kids to make sure they didn’t get lost but its well-worth going to and one of Brisbane’s best markets. Buskers add to the atmosphere.

A tip: you might need to use your mobile phone if you happen to lose your shopping buddy. Strollers might be tough to push along the pathways but a market trolley is useful for the walk back to the car.

freaky from West End says:

This market is definitely the number one in town. I'm not just saying that becaused I'm a biased local either. The atmosphere is buzzing, the vibe is totally chillaxed, and the offers can't be beaten.

Definitely a great way to spend your Saturday morning.

On your marks, get set… shop!
