Maestro 1 - Piers Lane plays Beethoven
The Queensland Orchestra and its Chief Conductor Johannes Fritzsch welcome back Piers Lane to launch the 2009 season in fine style.
Hailed internationally as a keyboard giant, Lane is an ideal interpreter of Beethoven’s much loved Fourth Piano Concerto. German folklore’s great practical joker Till Eulenspiegel, baited the establishment once too often and continues to haunt us in Richard Strauss’s brilliantly scored symphonic poem. Dmitri Shostakovich was undoubtedly the 20th century’s greatest symphonist. His kaleidoscopic and thought provoking 15th Symphony represents the summation of his symphonic output and is testimony to his creative genius, as he realises his own impending death, and the inevitability of man’s mortality.
