Few other major composers succeeded in combining buoyant high spirits with deep spirituality, elegance with power and touching simplicity with majesty as Josef Haydn, whose own geniality was surpassed only by his humility.
In this year of the bi-centenary of his death The Queensland Orchestra and Canticum Chamber Choir present his oratorio The Creation. Written in the grand tradition of Handel, but with Haydn’s own inimitable voice, it is one of a handful of supreme masterpieces composed in his old age which prove that, even at the end of his long life, his inspiration remained undimmed. Experience the unique emotional thrill of stirring choruses and three magnificent Haydn singers.
