Ninety
Is it possible to revive a marriage in just 90 minutes? That’s what Brisbane will find out when Queensland Theatre Company presents Melbourne Theatre Company’s production of Ninety, the latest offering by Australian playwright Joanna Murray-Smith.
Starring Kym Gyngell and Melinda Butel, Ninety is a feisty new work about love, life and letting go.
William is an actor on the verge of international stardom. He agrees to meet with his ex-wife Isabel for an hour and a half – time in which she is determined to convince him that they are still in love before he flies to Paris to marry someone else.
Isabel has just 90 minutes to make her case, to remember what they had, to regain what was lost, to rediscover love or call it a day forever.
Director Simon Phillips says "Joanna seems blessed with an ability to write about relationships in a way that zeros in on the sensibilities and foibles of both sexes. It's great to sit in an audience and hear it rocked with alternate laughters; predominantly female, then predominantly male, then suddenly the whole audience united in a joint recognition. Ultimately, and most satisfyingly, the wisdom kicks in, and we all emerge somehow enlightened and reassured."
A hit in Melbourne during its 2008 season, Ninety is a must-see for anyone who’s felt the flames of intense love and fought to keep the fire burning.
