London’s hottest young playwriting talent storms onto the stage when Queensland Theatre Company presents That Face, a story of a family in emotional freefall.

When Mia faces expulsion from her private boarding school, she turns to her older brother Henry for help. But Henry already has his hands full desperately trying to keep their fragile mother Martha sober and sane. The imminent arrival of their estranged father only adds to their troubles.

Dubbed by West End critics as the 21st Century’s Tennessee Williams and Edward Albee, Polly Stenham’s That Face, is a darkly comic exploration of privileged children going off the rails.

Stenham’s youthful energy is matched by young, Brisbane director Nic Dorwood, making his Company debut, who describes the play as, “A great example of new British writing. Gone are the sour-faced plays that pulled the youth of the last decade up by the scruff of their dirty necks and exposed them for all the world to see. In their place is the modern adolescent – savvy, dry and something to be utterly terrified of. This very accurate, very funny portrayal of modern youth is placed in a gloriously dysfunctional family setting, complete with complex, dramatic and painfully honest renditions of modern parenting.”
