25 Down
Brisbane’s latest playwriting sensation, Richard Jordan, takes the spotlight when Queensland Theatre Company presents 25 Down, the winner of the 2008-09 Queensland Premier’s Drama Award.
A heartfelt comedy about the trials and triumphs of dating, friendships and getting older, 25 Down captures a slice of love and life in Brisbane.
James is 25, fresh out of art school and utterly lost. His best friend Emma is stuck in a dead-end job, might be pregnant, is dating an older, married man and thinks she’s in love with James. The trouble is, James is gay. His flatmate Gary, might be in love with Simon, James’s current conquest – despite being old enough to be his father. No one ever said love was easy.
Every one of them obsesses about passing life’s use-by date as they drift through the coffee shops, bars and apartments of Brisbane.
Director Jon Halpin says “I'm really looking forward to working on Richard's play. It's one with a big heart and great humour that contains wonderful insights into the world of the characters, which is of course, our world too. I reckon we've unearthed a genuine talent with this award. The challenge of doing new work is exciting and I can't wait to get started.”
25 Down is a play about truth, lies and stereotypes in Brisbane’s gay and straight communities – and the roles people are willing to play in order to be loved.
