The 2high Festival is a cutting edge, multi-arts festival promoting young and emerging artists and arts workers in South East Queensland.

What makes 2high unique is the role of twelve young coordinators who produce and curate the entire festival with assistance from Backbone Youth Arts and other industry professionals who work as mentors.

As well as supporting these emerging event managers, the festival allows young performers, visual artists and musicians to showcase their work in front of a young and vibrant audience.

The 2high vision is to create an iconic arts festival that ignites inspiration.

The festival aims to:

  • Support and encourage emerging festival and event managers to gain experience and make contacts in the Brisbane arts industry.
  • Showcase the creative talent of young musicians, visual artists and performers.
  • Excite and inspire Brisbane audiences by celebrating the creative excellence on show.

History

2high was founded in 1993 as a development platform for women wishing to elevate themselves into key coordinating roles in the arts and cultural industries.

2007 brought two major developments to the 2high Festival. For the first time, the coordinating positions were open to men. The festival also moved to the Brisbane Powerhouse, an exciting and increasingly popular venue amongst Brisbane audiences.

The name of the festival was inspired by a circus move called 'two high', in which two performers stand on each other's shoulders. This move symbolises the integral coordinator and mentor component of the festival, where participants 'stand on each other's shoulders' to reach new heights and further their opportunities.

The 2high Festival takes place at Brisbane Powerhouse on Friday 7 and Saturday 8 November 2008. Entry to all peformances is free.
