Julie grew up in North Maclean (northern NSW) but went to Brisbane State High School.
Born in 1987, Julie Goodwin’s career is just beginning. Already she has performed to acclaim at some of Australia’s premier venues. In 2007 Julie led the National Anthem for the opening ceremony of the Australian Youth Olympics Festival and the Australia Day Spectacular, Darling Harbour.
In 2006 she was a soloist in a concert for The Royal Flying Doctor Service (City Recital Hall, Angel Place). She has been a featured soloist in both the 2005 and 2006 Schools Spectacular live performances and the ABC TV broadcasts.
Julie graduated in 2005 from the Sydney Conservatorium High School, was selected to perform in Encore at the Sydney Opera House and was awarded a scholarship to the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where she has been studying with Dr Rowena Cowley. Julie is also a graduate of the prestigious Talent Development Project.
Julie has toured Singapore with the Queensland Symphonic Winds and in 2002 was privileged to sing for HRH Duke of Edinburgh during CHOGM. Further accolades for this fine young performer include the 4MBS Classic FM Outstanding Student Award, an Australian Young Citizen Award, and two scholarships from the Youth and Tourism Foundation for Young Australians.
Favourite Phantom song: my favourite song in the show is “Past the Point of No Return”. It’s a seductive duet set as a tango.
Brisbane audiences are: Brisbane audiences have been great this season. They’ve embraced the show with open arms and standing ovations!
Pre-performance anxiety – how I quell it: Thankfully not something I generally suffer! Most important, physically and vocally, is to warm-up…take a couple of deep breaths…then it’s on with the show!
Favourite shower song: Chromatic scale in F#!
Best place in Brisbane for a coffee…a picnic… a glass of vino with a view: The Three Monkeys Coffee and Tea House in West End has great coffee! I think the Botanic Gardens would be lovely for a picnic. As for a glass of wine, it’s the company that matters, but I do love the restaurants along Eagle Street Pier.
If I wasn’t acting/singing/dancing I’d be: truthfully, I’ve never thought of inhabiting any other world but the arts!
