Queensland's finest young musicians will spend their school holidays practising for their audition for Queensland Youth Orchestras (QYO).
Based in Brisbane, QYO is a world-class youth orchestra organisation providing an annual program of rehearsals, tutorials, music camps, concerts and tours for young musicians.
500 musicians in eight orchestras perform more than 60 concerts throughout Queensland each year. The leading orchestra, the Queensland Youth Symphony conducted by John Curro AM MBE, tours internationally every four years.
Ages of members range between 9-24 years, and all groups rehearse in Old Museum Building, Bowen Hills. QYO is Queensland's major orchestral training academy for young musicians and is widely recognised as a world-class institution.
QYO seeks to maximise the musical potential of its members. Past QYO members have gone on to become respected musicians in their field both nationally and internationally. QYO motivates continued instrumental studies and provides a platform for future orchestral and musical careers.
Application forms for 2009 are now available, with over 500 positions available in three symphony orchestras, two wind orchestras, a junior string ensemble, a big band, and for the first time ever, a junior wind ensemble.
