Queensland Theatre Company is offering a masterclass series on writing satire for the stage, with Australian comedy legends Max Gillies and Guy Rundle.

This new initiative is open to sketch writers, song writers, cabaret performers or writers, and comedians or any one who wants to write satire. The only requirement is that you want to be funny and shoot some sacred cows!

Starting Wednesday 22 July, the 5 week masterclass series gives you the chance to develop your skills, culminating in a public performance of new satire in late August.

The workshops include 30 hours of development over 5 weeks, including 4 six-hour Saturday masterclasses, and weekly three-hour sessions on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings. Participants will also attend an introductory session on the evening of Wednesday 22 July.

30 hours of development over 5 weeks.Taking Aim - Writing Satire for the Stage has a primary aim of generating an interest and expertise in writing political satire for the stage in Queensland. It is hoped the 2011 Queensland Premier's Drama Award will be a satirical piece. This program will hopefully create a greater number and higher quality of entries when the call for submissions comes out.

Max Gillies is one of Australia's favourite political satirists and through his television shows and theatrical performances has lampooned Australia's most notable politicians, businessmen, writers and personalities as well as international leaders and persons of pop cultural interest.
