Picasso in his studio at mas Notre-Dame-de-Vie, with two portraits by Douanier Rousseau (1965)
Do not miss seeing ‘Picasso & His Collection’ at Brisbane’s Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) from 9 June – 14 September 2008.
This is the very first time Pablo Picasso’s personal art collection is on display outside of Europe.
‘Picasso & His Collection’ presents over 100 works from his personal collection plus up to 80 important master works by Picasso himself.
As an artist, Picasso collected the works of other well-known artists of his time as well as a selection of Oceanic and African pieces.
You can see the paintings, drawings, monotypes, objects and prints that Picasso collected by artists including Paul Cezanne, Salvador Dali, Edgar Degas, Henri Matisse, Amedeo Modgliani, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Henri Rousseau and many others.
Gathered together over a lifetime, the collection offers an intimate portrait of Picasso the artist.
Regular visitors to GoMA know to expect a high standard in the Children’s Art Centre. Yo Picasso Kids brings the exhibition to life for children and everyone can get hands-on with mask making and paper sculptures
The film program of the Australian Cinematheque offers a selection of documentaries and movies which explore the life of Picasso, his work and influence.
