Brisbane’s Kate Miller-Heidke will give a rare acoustic performance for the final ‘Picasso & his collection’ Up Late program on Friday 12 September at the Gallery of Modern Art.
Queensland Art Gallery Acting Director Andrew Clark said Up Late closing night audiences were in for a dynamic and fitting finale to the successful exhibition with this rare show by one of Australia’s most talked about rising music stars.
‘The final Up Late will provide audiences with a very special opportunity to be among the first to experience songs from Kate Miller-Heidke’s new album to be released in October,’ he said.
Kate Miller-Heidke’s debut gold-selling album Little Eve entered the ARIA charts at number 11 in June 2007 and earned four ARIA Award nominations.
Kate Miller-Heidke has been in Los Angeles recently, recording her second full-length album, due for release in October. When she performs at GoMA on 12 September, it will be the first time she has performed songs from the new album.
Mr Clark said the Up Late program had provided an alternative way for audiences to experience major exhibitions in a social setting and had featured a wide range of local, national and international acts including Basia Bulat (London, Ontario), Katie Noonan (Brisbane), Holden (Paris), JD Samson from Le Tigre (New York) and Stereo Total (Berlin).
Mr Clark said Ingrid Hoffmann, Regional Manager, Arts Queensland, would also take part in the program’s final ‘show and tell’ collectors talk, featuring her collection of aprons from the 1950’s and 60’s.
‘Through these talks, audiences have had a unique opportunity to discover much about the inspirations and passion behind collecting, an idea at the centre of the ‘Picasso & his collection’ exhibition,’ he said.
‘‘Picasso & his collection’, which is exclusive to Brisbane, closes on Sunday, 14 September, having attracted more than 150,000 visitors since opening on 9 June,’ he said.
Up Late during ‘Picasso & his collection’ continues at the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) every Friday during the exhibition from 5pm until 9.30pm until 12 September. (The exhibition will be open until 9.15pm).
Up Late is a separate ticketed event for $20 (including exhibition entry) and tickets are available through qtix, phone 136 246.
