Brisbane’s snap-happy photographers, both amateur and professional, will have their lenses focussed on Brisbane’s growth as part of the 2008 Lord Mayor’s Photographic Awards.

Brisbane has done a lot of growing up and this year entrants are being invited to capture on camera the memories, cityscapes, places and events that best depict this year’s theme of Growing Up: 150 years of Brisbane.

Lord Mayor Campbell Newman said the theme is an opportunity to reflect on that rich and diverse history that makes Brisbane the city that it is today.

“Winning entries could be childhood haunts, a favourite park or place to enjoy nature, an iconic building or landmark, a view of the ever-changing Brisbane skyline or even a favourite moment in the city’s history like Expo.”

“Brisbane has come a long way and through photographs, we have the unique ability to celebrate our growth and successes,” Cr Newman said.

The awards are free to enter with more than $4,000 in prizes to be won.

Top entries will then be shown in Museum of Brisbane’s Growing Up: 150 years of Brisbane exhibition from 5 December 2008 until 8 March 2009.

This is the fourth annual Lord Mayor’s Photographic Awards.
